Legal Counsel for the ASP

 

Atty Antonio Bernardo, a long-time friend of the Actuarial Society of the Philippines, has graciously accepted the role of the Society’s Legal Counsel.

Atty Bernardo is the Chairman, Executive Committee, and Senior Partner of the Bernardo, Placido, Chan & Lasam Law Firm (BPCL Law).  He has established a successful career in both the private and government sectors after completing his notable academic and scholastic training.

He pursued a college degree at the Ateneo de Manila University graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1975.  He later took up law at the School of Law of the same university, where he graduated Valedictorian of the Law Class of 1988.  He took the Bar Examinations in the same year and ranked 2nd among the top notchers that year.

Atty Bernardo started work in the private sector as a management trainee at the Ayala Group of companies,  He went on to Universal Reinsurance Corporation (Universal Re), where he quickly rose from Sales Assistant to Vice President at a young age.  He then moved to Ayala Corporation as a Senior Division Manager while being seconded to Universal Re.

Atty Bernardo was also appointed to various positions in government, namely, Secretary of the Commission on Appointments, Undersecretary of the Department of Energy, Undersecretary of the Department of Finance, Officer-In-Charge of the Social Security System, Commissioner of the Bureau of Customs, and Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board.

On behalf of the ASP, the Board welcomes Atty Bernardo and is looking forward to continue working closely with him.
